Summer Intensive:
Why Attend an Intensive?
Because it is fun and offers you an opportunity to become immersed in the solution-focused approach. It is a wonderful way to network with like-minded professionals. Participants from all across Canada, the United States, and from as far away as Columbia, South America, have attended these intensives.
How is an Intensive Different from the Workshops?
The group size is smaller than in the workshops. This allows for more time for individual attention, such as watching you practice the skills. Smaller group size also allows for time to adjust the seminar content to participants' needs and concerns. I do more demonstration interviews, many of which are spontaneous role-plays, which address participant questions.
Your skills and confidence in using this model are increased through a combination of theory, observation of videotaped interviews, role-plays, discussion of the readings, case examples, and demonstration interviews by me!
NEW! Intensives: Osoyoos Lakeside Resort
Relax on the beach, visit local vineyards, have a vacation in this amazing place. See schedule for Fall and Summer dates.
Hours and Format:
We go from 8:30 to 3:30 p.m., and the focus is on practical skills that you can begin to use immediately! In the morning, we cover theory and apply it to your case examples. Videotaped interviews and demonstrations by the instructor demonstrate key skills. In the afternoon, you have a chance to apply the skills in role-plays with your colleagues. Don't groan! Participants always say, that in spite of their apprehension about role -playing, it was incredibly valuable.
Learning Materials:
You are provided with an extensive handout package, including worksheets that you can use in your practice. A binder of selected readings, as well as an extensive bibliography, is included in the workshop fee. Each day, the group discusses a selected article. The group synergy and exchange of ideas is phenomenal!
Fun and Sightseeing!
We have lots of time for fun! At the end of the intensive, people have forged friendships that continue long after!
